Seafield Crematorium Funeral Services
Seafield Crematorium Service Room (Chapel)
The service room has seating for approximately 120 people and has room for many more standing. Services can be relayed by loudspeaker to the adjoining waiting room and also externally when necessary.
Services are at hourly intervals and start on the hour. The first service is at 9.00am and the last at 4.00pm. Services should last no more than 40 minutes, to allow sufficient time for mourners to leave the service room and for the staff to prepare for the next funeral.
Religious / Non-Religious Services
The service room is non-denominational. We aim for it to be used by people of all faiths and of none. Certain Christian symbols are present and if requested we will remove those which are removable. We also have symbols representing the Sikh, Hindu and Buddhist religions, which can be placed in the chapel on request. We would ask for at least 24 hours’ notice of any such requests.
It is not necessary for a minister or other religious official to officiate at the service. It is entirely in order for a member of the family or a friend of the family to take on this role. We would also encourage family and friends to become actively involved in the arranging of the service, if they so wish.
Music
Our digital music system contains a comprehensive range of music from traditional to modern. We are able to source additional music which we don’t hold, providing it is currently commercially available, although we will need at least two working days’ notice.
The chapel also has an organ and we can provide an organist upon request.
Recording and Viewing over the Internet
We have the facility to view services over the internet, a ‘webcast’, where the funeral may be viewed live (and on demand for a further 28 days), this can only be seen by those authorised by the person arranging the funeral.
We are also able to provide a DVD or USB keepsake copy of the service. There is a small charge for the hosting associated with the webcast, for on demand playback and also for a DVD or USB keepsake copy.
Other useful information
The chapel and waiting room are accessible for people with mobility issues and there are separate disabled toilet facilities and disabled parking. There is parking on site for 60 cars and an onsite waiting room with tea, coffee and toilet facilities.
If you are using public transport there is a bus stop at Seafield Place, which is a two minute walk, through Seafield Cemetery to the crematorium. Please see Lothian Buses for up to date information on which services cover this route.
